Black Community Leaders


For nonprofits serving this population:

Organizations that are Black-led (chief executive or board chair identifies as Black), that have demonstrated commitment to Black inclusion and leadership and that serve predominantly Black communities.

Common requirements for grant applicants:

  • 501(c)(3) status
  • One year of financial data
  • Located in and serving Greater Philadelphia (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in PA or Burlington and Camden counties in N.J.)
  • Black-led (i.e. the chief executive or board chair identifies as Black and the organization has demonstrated commitment to Black inclusion and leadership) and serving Black communities (i.e. the predominate constituency or residents served [51% or more] are Black)
  • Committed to strengthening their programs, operations and governance in order to better serve Black communities
  • See additional requirements listed in application.

Amount of grants:

Between $5,000 and $100,000, depending on the organization’s operating needs.

STEP 1: DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY

Carefully review the criteria listed above.

STEP 3: REPORT

We typically ask grantees to submit a budget and a one-page narrative report detailing how the funds were used and the impact on your organization. Reporting requirements will be determined based on the grant type and duration.

 

Budget: Provide an itemized budget of actual expenses and income.

 

Narrative: Were goals met? What was the impact on the organization and the population served? What are the most important lessons your organization learned from this project?
